1. About the competition

The competition will take place on 16 January- 27 May 2021, in several stages:

  • I and II Rounds will be held remotely from participants' video recordings made especially for this Competition.
  • The Final will take place to live in Vilnius, at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Modestas Barkauskas
  • Finalists will be fully reimbursed for their travel and accommodation costs, excluding meals.

The Competition is open to violinists from all countries, born on or after February 2, 1994.
The students of the Jury members can take part in the competition, but those Jury members are not allowed to vote for their students or have an impact on the decisions of other Jury members and their decisions.

Note: 1st prize winners of previous J. Heifetz competitions cannot participate in this Competition.

2. Registration

  • Participants should register online through their artistDB accounts by December 10, 2020

  • During the registration, the applicant must upload a valid YouTube video performance link(-s) for the Preselection Round, where performs two pieces from the list below accordingly to requirements:

(Solo videos without accompaniment for the preselection round are suitable).


    • No. 1 in B-flat major KV 207;
    • No. 2 in D major KV 211;
    • No. 3 in G major KV 216;
    • No. 4 in D major KV 218;
    • No. 5 in A major KV 219;

N. Paganini. One selected Caprice from "24 Caprices for Solo Violin", Op. 1

  • Editing of the video recordings is prohibited, but different pieces may be recorded at different times and in different locations.

3. Program

  • Each participant shall prepare a program in accordance with the Competition repertoire. The selected program should be stated in the application form. 
  • Only compulsory piece  - Giedrius Kuprevičius „The Strings and Fingers“  -  can be performed from the notes.
  • The compulsory piece's notes will be sent to each participant when they complete the registration and pay the registration fee.
  • All other programs of all Rounds should be performed by MEMORY.
  • Participants who have logged in to their artistDB account will be able to change their programs and performance order until 13 January 2020.
  • Participants will be required to perform their programs in the order of their own choice finally made in artistDB on 13 January 2021.
  • Jury members could stop unprofessional performance.

4. Remote Auditions

  • Selected contestants in I and II Rounds will participate remotely, providing Youtube links with recorded auditions performances, through their accounts on artistDB.
  • I and II Rounds auditions video recordings should be in separate Youtube links.
  • I and II Rounds auditions programs can be recorded as a single performance or one piece at the time.
  • The video recordings should be made not earlier than October 15, 2020. Before the start of each Round performance (if the Round is recorded continuously), or before the start of each track (if each piece is recorded separately), the participant should announce: "This video performance is made for the 2021 Jascha Heifetz Competition".
  • All Auditions and the Final Concert will be broadcasted publicly.

5. Registration fee

  • The registration fee is 100 EUR. The fee is non-refundable. You will be able to pay by credit card, bank transfer, or PayPal. You will be provided with more detailed information during the registration process.

6. Selection of Participants

  • Received applications are forwarded to the Preselection Committee.
  • Candidates are informed about their acceptance until 18 December 2020. 
  • The possible number of participants in the 1 Round is 50 participants, in the 2nd Round is no more than 15 participants, in the Final - no more than 6 finalists.
  • Candidates for the final may also be announced.
  • Participants, who do not pass to the next Round, will be able to receive depersonalized comments from the Jury members about their performance by e-mail from the Competition Management.
  • The results of I and II Rounds will be announced at the end of them, and the results of the Final will be announced during the Laureates Awards Ceremony.
  • The decisions of the Jury are final and not subject to appeal.

7. Prizes and Benefits

  • The main prize fund of the Competition is EUR 20,000
  • Travel to Vilnius and accommodation will be organized and paid for by the Competition for all Finalists.
  • The Competition will provide participants with rehearsal facilities in the Final round.

IMPORTANT: The competition organizers do not take responsibility for travel restrictions and other mandatory decisions made by Lithuanian or/and other countries authorities due to the COVID-19 pandemicThe organizers will do everything to mediate between competitors and Lithuanian authorities and make sure to arrange visas and permissions necessary to enter The Republic of Lithuania. Nevertheless, the final decision about arrival to the conditions (quarantine or isolation) will be made individually for each competitor depending on the COVID-19 situation in the outbound country.


8. Obligations of Participants

  • It is forbidden to have contact with the Jury during all the competition (unless the participant is a student of a Jury member).
  • Chosen competition laureates, diploma holders and winners of the special prizes are obliged to take part in the Competition Final concerts of the competition without remuneration.
  • The competition's all rounds and final concerts of the winners can be streamed online on radio and television, recorded on audio, video, or compact CD without any additional payment for the participants of the competition. The competition will be available online.
  • The Management of the Competition reserves a right to permit all the Competition performances and final concerts to be broadcasted by radio and television and to be produced as audio, video, film, CD, tape cassette and vinyl recordings without remuneration to the competitors.

 

9. Competition Schedule

  • Registration to the Competition will be available till 10 December 2020.
  • Results of the Preselection Round will be announced till 18 December 2020.
  • Selected participants should upload their video recordings of I and II Rounds Performances until 13 January 2021.
  • The participation order will be established by drawing of lots – the order will remain valid until the end of the competition.
  • I Round Auditions will be broadcasted online 30-31 January 2021. (Results of the I Round will be announced at the end of broadcasting).
  • II Round Auditions will be broadcasted online on 02 February 2021. (Results of the II Round will be announced at the end of broadcasting).
  • The arrival of Final participants is planned for 24-25 May 2021.
  • Rehearsals with the orchestra will take place on 25-26 May 2021.
  • III Round – Final with Orchestra will take place on 26-27 May 2021.
  • The departure of Final participants is planned on 28 May 2021.
